CSfC NAS Enhances Capabilities with 10Gbit Ethernet and 8TB Storage Capacity

MODERN DAY MARINE 2023, Walter E. Washington Convention Center (Booth #1349) – WASHINGTON D.C. – June 28, 2023 – Curtiss-Wright’s Defense Solutions division has introduced the latest variant in its popular DTS1 Data Transport System family of network attached storage (NAS) devices. The new DTS1X brings a 10 Gbit Ethernet (GbE) interface to applications that require the storage and protection of large amounts of data on manned aircraft, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), unmanned underwater vehicles (UUV), unmanned surface vehicles USV), unmanned ground vehicles (UGV), and intelligence surveillance reconnaissance (ISR) aircraft. The high-speed recorder captures data at speeds of ~450 MB/s (write) via its 10 GbE interface and 1 GbE interface. The DTS1X protects sensitive data-at-rest (DAR) with two layers of full disk encryption (FDE) in a compact single device. The highly rugged NAS device stores up to 8TB on a removable XRM memory cartridge. The XRM can be easily removed from one DTS1X and installed into any other DTS1X, providing seamless data transfer between one or more networks in separate locations (e.g., from ground to vehicle to ground) while providing rapid data offloading. The unit is designed to ensure secure high-speed data transfer and protection of data-at-rest without interruption or the compromise of system performance, with both software full disk encryption and hardware full disk encryption.

The size, weight and power (SWaP) optimized DTS1X (52.5 cubic inches; 3.55 lbs), with storage up to 8 TB, enables system integrators to significantly extend their mission duration. The commercial off the shelf (COTS) unit supports industry standard NAS protocols including NFS, CIFS, FTP, TFTP, and HTTP. To maximize system design flexibility, the DTS1X enables clients to use different operating systems (Linux®, VxWorks®, Windows®, etc.) or CPUs (Power Architecture®, Intel®, Arm®, etc).

About the DTS1 Product Family

The original DTS1 data recorder was the embedded industry’s first COTS DAR storage solution designed to support Commercial Solutions for Classified (CSfC) with 2-Layers of encryption in a single device. CSfC is an NSA-approved approach for protecting classified National Security Systems (NSS) information in aerospace and defense applications that uses cost-effective commercial encryption technologies in a layered solution. It is the first Common Criteria-certified NAS solution approved by the NSA with two certified encryption layers. Building upon the legacy of the DTS1, the DTS1X is CSfC certifiable and will be submitted for Common Criteria evaluation in Q4 2023.
